The following is a proposed resolution for the April 26th Chapter Meeting:

Whereas the majority of classes at CUNY are taught by adjunct faculty, graduate assistants, continuing education teachers, and while other part-time time staff (such as CLTs and non-teaching adjuncts) are vital to the functioning of the university and to the PSC; and

Whereas over 55% of people in PSC-represented titles are now in “part-time” titles, and when looking back at the history of PSC-wide elections there has never been a part-timer elected to a Principal Officer Position; and

Whereas when looking back at the history of PSC-wide elections, it is apparent that that full-time staff (HEO and CLT) members have been consistently underrepresented in Principal Officer positions vs. their full-time faculty colleagues, even though the number of full-time staff (HEOs and CLTs) in the PSC and the number of full-time faculty in the PSC are nearly equal; and

Whereas our union seeks to represent PSC-represented titles in the fairest, most transparent, and most democratic means possible;

Be it resolved that Article VI Section 1 be amended to include the following: “g. Any slate running with at least three candidates for General Officer positions must nominate a PSC member in a part-time title for at least one of the offices of President, First Vice-President, Treasurer, or Secretary, and a PSC member in the HEO or CLT titles for at least one of the offices of President, First Vice-President, Treasurer, or Secretary. The Elections Committee (duties listed in Article XII) shall amend the rules for running slates to reflect this change before nominations are accepted for the next election of General Officers.” 

Further be it resolved that Article IX Section 6 be amended to include the following: “Any slate running candidates for elected campus chapter Executive Committee positions, on campuses with six or more delegate or alt-delegate positions, must nominate PSC members in part-time titles for at least 25% of those positions. The Elections Committee (duties listed in Article XII) shall amend the rules for running slates to reflect this change before nominations are accepted for Spring 2023 campus elections.”
