The People’s Pantry is open!

Last night, we launched our campaign to Reclaim the Commons by establishing a food pantry in the 8th-floor Dining Commons, sharing a hot dinner and drinks, and holding a community meeting to talk about next steps. Our hope is to have weekly dinners and community meetings. The next one is Wednesday, February 8 from 5-7pm. All are invited! We will also have a free coffee and tea station beginning Monday, February 6.

While we purchased hundreds of pounds of food (and have raised almost a thousand dollars), almost all the food has been taken in less than a day. This demonstrates the extremity of the food crisis many Grad Center students, faculty, and staff are experiencing. Let’s continue to support each other and build the community power necessary to force the administration to restore affordable, healthy dining services at the GC.

This is what the pantry looked like at 10:00 am today. We’re working hard to coordinate volunteers to help restock, organize, and check in on the pantry on a daily basis.
