French labor confederation threatens to cut off electricity to politicians and billionaires!

France’s General Confederation of Labor, a national trade union center with three quarters of a million members, has threatened to cut off electricity to Members of Parliament and Billionaires amid the leadup to nationwide strike planned for Thursday, January 19. The strike is aimed at countering president Macron’s proposed neoliberal social welfare reforms, particularly the proposed alterations of France’s pension system, one of the most generous in Europe.

As we continue to fight for working-class gains in the U.S., it is refreshing to see an example of class-struggle unionism in Europe that identifies the primary social conflict as one between the billionaire-dominated economy and political apparatus and the vast majority of the population, the workers. We could learn a good deal from the French labor militancy and coordination.

Vive la commune!
