PSC Town Hall on the Future of The Graduate Center

August 19, 2020
12 – 1:30pm

The Graduate Center presidency is changing hands amid deep turmoil.

“Austerity” doesn’t begin to describe our predicament. CUNY’s founding promise — to educate the “whole people” — is being cruelly broken. Governors, mayors, chancellors, and college presidents have cheerfully continued talking about “social mobility,” “diversity,” and “opportunity” while overseeing mass firings, ballooning tuition fees, racist budget cuts, and a deadly, mid-pandemic assault on healthcare.

In this context, it’s not enough for us to fight back. We must thrust CUNY forward — reclaiming its public mission and realizing its radical, democratic potential.

The Graduate Center Chapter of our union is rich in organizing power and intellectual energy. On August 19, we are combining both in a unique welcome for our new president. Join us, online, as staff, students, and faculty come together to voice our own concerns, articulate our demands, and demonstrate our solidarity.
