Management refused to comment on “HR issues” at other campuses concerning the Fired Four and would not commit to further support, other than resources available for the GC community generally.
Labor asked for updates on the “fifth year experience fellowships” and again expressed concern that we have heard from members about communication and opportunities.
Labor asked about protections for workers when they are being videotaped in their jobs. Management reported that additional training for public safety to come, perhaps also new technological systems for campus entry in the future.
Labor asked about plans to handle changes to student visas. Discussion of possibilities, but “more unknowns than knowns”.
Labor inquired about a new anti-semitism coordinator issued from governor Hochul. There was discussion about whether part timers or graduate students are required to complete Title VI training.
There was also a discussion of what protections there are for faculty who are targeted for what they teach. Management is interested to have further conversation and trainings for faculty in this area.
Labor requested updates on the HEO LM committee and for the number of 1) consultations about reclassification, 2) reclassification applications, and 3) how many HEOs were successfully reclassified. Management shared that in the last year, there were 5 applications at the GC, 4 HEOs were successfully reclassified, and 1 application was rejected by CUNY Central and is being repackaged.
Labor pointed to understaffing in the mail room and IT departments. Management pointed to the 5% cuts for some of this understaffing, said that the amount of mail is down, and said they will replace more IT staff when there are retirements in that department.
Labor asked again about filling the position of the Director of Facilities. Management says that Brian Peterson is doing that work, there is no budget to hire.
