featuring Jennifer Camper, Sara Gómez Woolley, and Sabrina Jones

Jennifer Camper’s comics are often dark stories with sly humor and they give voice to outsiders. Her work examines life from a perspective that is irreverent, female, queer, and mongrel (Lebanese American). She often explores gender, race, class, and politics, as well as sexuality, mermaids, and robots. She’s also a cartoon editor, a teacher, and the creator of three Queers & Comics Conferences. Her books include Rude Girls and Dangerous Women, a collection of her cartoons, and subGURLZ, a graphic novella following the adventures of three women living in abandoned subway tunnels. She also edited two Juicy Mother comics anthologies. Her cartoons and illustrations have appeared in numerous publications, and have been exhibited internationally. The film documentary No Straight Lines, the Rise of Queer Comics, features cartoonists Jenifer Camper, Alison Bechdel, Howard Cruse, Ruppert Kinnard and Mary Wings.

Sara Gómez Woolley’s work has been recognized by the New York Society of Illustrators, the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, and 3×3 Magazine of Contemporary Illustration. She has worked on a variety of exciting projects for clients including National Geographic, DC Comics, Image Comics, Scholastic, Random House, Parallax Press, For Beginners Books, and the New Castle Science Convention UK. Sara’s ongoing personal project, a fictionalized graphic memoir written collaboratively with her mother and art partner Leila Gómez Woolley, Los Pirineos the mostly true memoirs of Esperancita Gómez, was singled out for award by the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, the largest Latino arts organization in the US. Sara is current faculty of the Communications Design Department at New York City College of Technology, CUNY.

Sabrina Jones is a cartoonist, writer, editor, and scenic artist, who began her career with activist art collective Carnival Knowledge and alternative comics World War 3 illustrated and Girltalk. Her books Race to Incarcerate: A Graphic Retelling (with Marc Mauer) and Isadora Duncan: A Graphic Biography were both named “Great Graphic Novels” by the Young Adult Library Services Association. Jones created comics for Wobblies!, The Real Costs of Prisons, FDR and the New Deal for Beginners, Yiddishkeit, Radical Jesus, and Our Lady of Birth Control: A Cartoonist’s Encounter with Margaret Sanger. She received a BFA in painting from Pratt Institute and an MFA in illustration from School of Visual Arts. Her scenic work can be seen every weekend on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Sabrina just completed editing the forthcoming (June) 53rd issue of World War 3 illustrated, “My Body/Our Rights!”
